Sess. Laws 2012 ch. 3<\/a>. The bill is effective as of June 7, 2012. Governor Martin O&#8217;Malley will sign a similar bill in Maryland, called the<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/mlis.state.md.us\/2012rs\/billfile\/hb0438.htm\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Civil Marriage Protection Act,\u00a0<\/a>House Bill 438, on March 1, 2012. Both laws may be subject to repeal by referendum votes by the citizens of the respective states.
